Boundaries whether they are rigid or loose cause us to either isolate ourselves or make our choices difficult. Saying no and meaning it in a healthy way helps us to avoid conflict and difficult situations.
When we have healthy boundaries we are setting the scene for how we want others to behave towards us and also how we treat ourselves.
